Is drinking alcohol OK for us Christians?

”Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise”.
Proverbs 20:1

"Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? 30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. 31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. 32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. 33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things. 34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. 35 They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again."
Proverbs 23:29-35

"I know, I know, you guys that drink alcohol never drink too much do you? Sure you don't. I was around people who drank this stuff a lot before I was saved and I know from experience that someone who drinks almost always does it to get a buzz from it.  Do your eyes behold strange women when you drink? Do you utter perverse things, like curse words, or dirty jokes when you drink? I am convinced that most of the fornication going on out there is at least partially attributable to alcohol consumption. Even the most worldly people consider it a sin product. Keep justifying it in your mind, but remember this verse:
Proverbs 14:12 'There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. ' "
"As I have demonstrated, nowhere in scripture do we find Jesus drinking alcoholic wine. Alcohol is destructive and addictive. It is a depressant drug that actually attacks the brain cells and destroys them. Twenty percent of all patients admitted into mental hospitals have a problem with alcohol. Alcohol has caused numerous health and social problems. In addition to this a majority of traffic fatalities and accidents can be directly attributive to alcohol. Drunkenness destroys lives and relationships. It is not just a disease. It is a sin."

We recently ran across this article and would encourage you to read it!

This is also a very good article to consider!!

It is truly distressing how many Christians think alcohol is OK!

What do y'all think?

  1. That is a really interesting article! Though personally I don't have any desire to drink at all.

  2. Drinking alcohol is bad! Period. God wants us Christians to ALWAYS be alert at all times. And alcohol does the opposite of what he wants. True Christians do not drink alcohol by any means. If your addicted, get some help and fast and pray about it. Blessings from your sister zipporah!

  3. Hmm...This is very interesting. And I have often asked myself the same question. BUT. Jesus did drink wine. How do you prove it wasn't alcoholic?
I think it is okay to drink wine as a christian, albeit a little.
But not beer, brandy, whisky, so on...
I don't know. Thanks for the interesting post.

    1. Hi Tane. :)
How much is a little? There is no way to drink *a little bit* of wine and not get buzzed. The article above (http://www.learnthebible.org/jesus-and-wine.html) clearly explains why the wine Jesus drank was not alcoholic. How in a clear conscious can we as Christians drink wine when God has laid out for us not to? (Proverbs 23:29-35, Proverbs 20:1). God would not contradict himself by telling us not to drink wine and then drink it himself.

How can we be a light for Jesus if we are just like the world?

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him." I John 2:15

  4. Drinking alcohol is awful and should be abolished. But it isn't. It's really sad- all the harmful affects it has on people. So many people need Christ.
